Training of the students

The reform of the Ukrainian health service system, switch-over to medicosanitary aid to population, budgetary insurance medicine, establishment of market relations, development of scientific and professional relations with other countries requires the improvement of existing system of preparation of medical workers in correspondence with world standards.

One hundred of experienced specialists ensure qualified educational process in college. Among them 1 Doctor of Medicine, 12 Candidates of Medicine, 45 teachers with higher category, 27 – with I category, 12 specialists in teaching methods, 3 senior teachers. During last two years the teaching staff increased with new specialists, which carry out educational and scientific work.

The base for a deep mastering of computer technologies forms 102 modern computers, which were received not long ago. With the aim of expansion of informational abilities they were connected with Internet. To have favourable conditions for a contact with foreign colleagues, Internet-club was organized in college. Cooperation with world medicine is marked in admittance to medical information systems, nets of libraries of medical institutes and scientific clinical centres. One of the direction of modern educational process is an independent extracurricular work of the students, for the fulfillment of with the curriculum envisages one third of time. Such approach makes it possible for the students to improve their knowledge and skill, to display individuality and activity.

For independent work of the students there are complexes of tasks, tests and reference literature. To improve the quality of informational providing and theoretical statement of knowledge the teaching method based on lectures was applied (the most experienced lecturer delivers lecture to 90 – 120 students). There are large lecture-halls for 90 – 180 persons. The same lecturers examineend-of-year and state examinations. Besides during writing of text-book they prepare proper parts of book.

Practical lessons and seminaries are conducted by means of classical and untraditional forms. There is a computer multimedia videoclass, where the students of college are able to observe the course of operation on screen, giving of medical aid, the technique of practical skills. The teachers-pluralists working in health protection system are also enlisted to college, making possible for students to obtain practical skills directly in hospitals.

Positive dynamics is marked in the strengthening of material technical base of college. Educational premises become more attractive every day. Reconstruction and modernization of studies and laboratories continues. The number of educational rooms in clinical bases has grown. The process of forming of profile departments of anatomy and physiology corresponding fundamental principles of chair in the medical institute is going on.

During the next year there will be anatomical museum, computer class for studying anatomy, lecture halls, etc. On august 1998, according to the direction of Health Protection Ministry of Ukraine, evening department “Nursing-baccalaureate” was founded. It was headed by the doctor Mikhailo Rostislavovich Demyanchuk. Today 52 students study at this department. The curriculum includes subjects which make it possible to train not only highly qualified nurse but also organizer of medical affair.

Those graduates who went through the first level (nurse, doctor’s assistant, obstetrician) with excellent results have an opportunity to master second (nurse-bachelor) and in future-third level. Such approach diminishes material expenses. All administrative posts are holded by doctors. The head of teaching work is Mykola Stepanovich Dashevsky, doctor-pulmonogist by profession, works from 1989. All the heads of departments are also doctors. It gives an opportunity to bring educational process nearer to practical problems and tasks. Methodical, scientific, and educational work in college is carried out in close cooperation with regional medical establishments and Health Protection Department of Rivne state administration.

Modern clinical practice demands specialists, possessing modern technologies of nursing and giving medical service according to European standards. The main criterion of pedagogical work is known to be the level of professional knowledge and students’ skill. That is why the leaders of educational and medical establishments do their best to improve training of specialists so that they could realize their skill in daily work.

Diapason of activization methods in teaching used in college is rather wide-spread. The choice some of them is carried out depending on specific didactic tasks and specifity of educational process. To the disposal of students the improved algorithms of technique of fulfillment different procedures and manipulations, special sets of moulages, nursing things were elaborated, which make it possible to imitate real conditions for this work.

So the newest model of moulage for practical skill “intravenous injection” permits completely make this manipulation and prevents any mistakes and complication in real conditions.

Thanks to the activity of different beneficial organizations, modern European models of medicinal instruments and nursing things were received in college. They are made in correspondence with new technologies.

Educational, practical and prediploma training of the students is carried out on the bases of 41 treatment and prophylactic establishments in Rivne and region. The profile of basic medical institutions makes it possible to carry out the programmes of training of nurses, doctor’s assistants, laboratory assistants, sanitary inspectors, dental mechanic and pharmaceutists. Simultaneously 460 students may have practical training in the clinical bases. The room of preclinical surgical training with a small operating-room is equipped in college. In perspective – foundation of surgical department model with operative block, traumatology and department of rehabilitation.

Besides room of preclinical training and mini delivery-room in college there is also educational base in Rivne maternity hospital №2. Here one can find everything for clinical training. Students have evening duties in maternity block and department of pregnants pathology.

Practical bases of therapeutic profile are created in chief medical establishments: regional hospital, central town hospital and regional centre of radiative defence of population. There are cabinets and educational rooms directly in departments.

Valerij Mikolajovich Oksjuta, deputy director with practical work, obstetrician and gynaecologist occupies with the organisation of such training. The teaching staff of college selects carefully interesting and pithy form of the competition «The best by profession». Such professional tests among nurses and doctors assistants of graduating groups are held twice a year before prediploma practice. Yearly the better students take part in All-Ukrainian competition of professional skill and more than once than became diplomats and prize-winners. Leaders of college have own information about the graduates places of work and their posts.

Nearly 65 per cent all medical specialists of our region and 87 per cent specialists of middle link in Rivne are graduates of our college. Every fourth graduate continues his study at the leading higher educational institutions in Ukraine.

Effective form college’s integration work with treatment and prophylactic institutions is common preparation for scientific and practical conferences by teachers, students, practicians, which precedes tedious scientific and research work with active participation of students, members of scientific societies. Experienced teachers work out the themes of search and research work, direct students’ activity at processing recommended literature, conduct consultations, help summarize and systematize gained results.

So under the aegis of Ukrainian and American Alliance of preventing inborn diseases of mental and physical development in college has been common scientific and practical conference “Modern state of diagnostics and treatment inborn diseases”. This conference stimulated students’ widespread work with children, who need special attention and work with children who are patients of native Children’s house.

Completion the practical knowledge of teachers clinicians take places at practical conferences, that are held at the base of college and are devoted to achievements in diagnostics and treatment diseases in therapy, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Practicians, leading specialists in the branch of health protection participate in the work of such conferences. Such conferences have essential value for raising level of theoretical and practical knowledge of college’s teachers-clinicians.

Administration such leading medical centres of Rivne region as Regional clinical hospital, Rivne regional clinical, medical and diagnostic center, Central town hospital and other institutions are members of commission from distribution to work and direct customers of medical staff. This is the highest qualitative index of training specialist in college.
