Critical, almost catastrophic lack of medical personal in Volyn who was exiled in Siberia and was annihilated by war led to the necessity of “Nurses School”. It was organized in Rivne in autumn 1941. Having accommodate to specific military conditions it was elaborated special program to prepare universal – nurse. She had to make not only her work but she could change doctor, mid-wife, hygienist and she could defend Motherland. That is why this program paid much attention to the history of Ukraine and medical subjects. Such preparation gave qualification : nurse, midwife and hygienist. Educational program went on 3 years, and practical work took place in hospitals, in summer – in rural hospitals and out – patients clinics. The studing was difficult because it was lack of premises, instruments, equipment, teachers. During first winter school changed its edifice 4 times. The Red Cross organization reviewer Kharitya Kononenko gave big help to school. She looked for teacher, organized dining – hall free of charge and hostel to the poorest pupils. In spring 1942 Germen closed all educational institutions in the town. They wanted also to close “Nurses ‘ School” as unnecessary, to send young people to work in Germany. But however 25 pupils / 17(Ukrainians) finished school in February 1943. Almost all of them received work in hospitals and out – patients clinics of Rivne.

  The persecution forked the director of Rivne “Nurses School” doctor – surgeon Dmitro Sayenko to go to forest. He entered Ukrainian unsurrectional army (U. P. A.). He took all surgical instruments and surgical service staff from school – leavers. Not long after 15 school – leavers also went to “forest” to help wounded men, sometimes to take them to the town hospital. It was big risk to their life, because Germen shot every suspected person. The nurse Fedotivna and some young pupils of “school” perished.

  But the history of medical college began from the first post – war year when according to the Ministry of Public Health decree of former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in May 1945 № 23318 Rivne doctor – assistant and midwife school was opened in Soborna street. This school prepared medium level medical specialists. The doctor Volodimyr Maharko was appointed the first director of Rivne doctor assistant and midwife school on the 1st of July 1945. The same year according to the decree № 4 Ivanova Lizaveta, teacher of history was taken on the post of the director of studies.

  The first teachers of doctor – assistant and midwife school were taken on the staff during 1945 – 1946 : Yaglenko Yakiv – teacher of physics and mathematics; Romanovich Zoya – teacher of biology and economic geography; Romanovska Zinaida – teacher of Ukrainian language; Velichko Nadiya – teacher of Russian language; Vessyolov Sergui – military leader; Lossev Ivan – teacher of chemistry; Fedorova Olga – teacher of physiology; Yaglenko Lidia – teacher of Ukrainian language; Tikhonovich Fedir – teacher of Latin language; Bulanov leonid – teacher of general hygiene; Petukhova Polina – teacher of microbiology; Vorobyov Mikola – teacher of physiology and therapeutics; Slipokurova Tetyana – teacher of biology; Scherbina Fedot – teacher of Ukrainian language; Shapovsky Pantifili – teacher of mathematics; Burshtein Izrail – teacher of pharmacology; Boriichuk Lidia – teacher of pediatrics; Loseva Tetyana – teacher of surgery; Shapochnikova Maria – teacher of obstetrics; According to the decree №8 on the 10th of September 1945 5 excellent pupils school – leavers of 1944 – 1945 of incomplete secondary school were entered doctor – assistant and midwife school without exams, 7 persons who passed competitive examinations became the pupils of this school.In all 61 persons were admited and 10 persons – under condition.

  On the 20-th of September young men and girls of the first admission began to learn opening unknown world of the most human profession of medical workers. Not all the pupils finished doctor assistant and midwife school. But in spite of post war years difficulties 58 pupils of top class who passed successfully state examinations received the qualification of medical worker: for young men – doctor assistant, for girls – midwife. Best pupils received honours diploma.We found their names: Chaika Olexander, Rokunets Zoya, Magarko Viktor, Havrusevich Kostyantin, Lashevski Sergui, Denega Neonila, Yarimchur Mykola. Chekun Vira.
     It was the third post –war year.

  In June 1954 doctor –assistant and midwife school was renamed into Rivne medical school according to the Ministry of Public decree. In connection with the necessity of giving professional medical aid to the population of region some new departments were opened. Among them: dental department –in 1961., pharmaceutics department in 1962, sanitary assistant department- in 1963, laboratory assistant department- in 1971. New building of medical school for 600 places was put into explotation in 1967. It had got 22 studies., 12 classrooms and laboratories. Medical school received the status of basic medical school for high level of medicai workers preparation according to the Munistry of public Health decree of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in August 1979.

  The fortunes of many generations of teachers and students are over this dry statistics. Famous medical specialists, doctors of medical sciences Yevguen Borovii and Boris Kvashenko worked in Rivne medical school. They made their big contribution in the development of medecine in Rivne region. They present director of college. Doctor of medical sciences, professor R.O. Sabadyshyn, microbiology chair head of Vinitsa high medical school, doctor of medical sciences, professor G.Palii, anatomy chair head of Ternopil medical academy, doctor of medical sciences V Gomon, candidate of medical sciences of Chernivtsi high medical school. Onofriichuk and others school–leavers of Rivne medical school. Many its former students became high qualified specialists and they are working in all regions of Ukraine and abroad.

  The development of the educational institution is linked with the names of its directors: V. Magarko (1945-1949), V. Pritula (1949-1959), V. Zabrodski (1959-1961), S. Yakusheski (1961-1969), E. Mazurenko (1969-1976), V. Vorobey (1976-1998), from 1998 and till now –R. Sabadyshyn. Everybody of them carried in certain part for the development of the educational institution.

  From 1999 Rivne basic medical school aquired new significance. It received the second level of accreditation соmmittee in April 1999 it received a status of medical college..

  The reoganization of educational institution is directed to the close cooperation of scientific and practical medicine. As a matter of fact the preparation to the reorganization of the medium–level special medical education in Rivne region began as long ago as 1998 when the medical school was headed by its school –leaver of 1977 doctor of medical sciences, professor Rostislav Sabadyshyn. He tries to raise the level of education in medical college to the world standards.

  Rivne medical college prepares medical workers of such specialities: medical affairs, nurse affairs (specialist and bachelor), laboratory diagnostics, medical prophylaxis, stomatology orthopedic and pharmacy. There are state and commercial forms of education. During the years of existence our college prepared more then 1200 junior medical specialists. Nowadays 1632 students study in college.

  Five departments and 12 methodic commissions constitute the educational process structure. The students of Rivne state medical college do educational – practical training at the bases of the best medical – prophylaxis institutions of Rivne and our region where there were equipped 42 educational rooms. Such metheod allows to approach the level of teaching disciplines to the demands of practical public health.

  In 1998 president scholarship was introduced in college. The first grand-aided student was Helene Okhmak who studied at the medical affairs department. During last years material and educational-scientific base of college increased considerably, scientific level of the teaching staff was rised. The forms and methods of educational-methodic and scientific work are improved. In generally the prestige of educational institution increased. In 2001 municipal and regional authority transfered to the possession of college educational building with area of 3502 square metres. After repairing works there are here cosy classrooms and laboratories.

  In 2003 medical college received one more hostel. Capital repairs was done in 6 monthes period. Its rooms were equipped with new modern furniture. In 2000 the department of “stomatology orthopedic” was renewed in college. It was equipped proper dental study to perfect preparation of dental mechanic, laboratories for work with metalceramics etc. Producing place of each student is equipped with table with with steel drill device, electric crucible etc. The teachers and professors of college and experienced specialists of practical public health teach the students clinical disciplines. The principle ‘teaches that to whom you will come to work’ is very important in the system of high-skilled specialists preparation.

   The drug-store net and private form of pharmaceutical service enlarged lately considerably. So far as the specialists of pharmacy were not prepared from 1980 that is why it was acute necessity of high skilled pharmaceutical personnel preparation. From 2000 in a college wag resumed speciality pharmacy and in accordance with the licensed requirements was provided with teaching personnel for organization teaching and educational process.

  Pharmaceutical association O.A.S. “Rivne-pharmacy” passed in the free lease for creation of lecture classrooms, educational rooms and laboratories, necessary apartments, which are on the base of pharmacy establishments of Rivne. With the contribution of the chairman the O.A.S. “Rivne-pharmacy” V. Sinyak laboratory and pharmacy equipment was given to the medical college. It is important that basic part of the special disciplines is conducted directly on production bases. The educational complex for employments of students-pharmaceutists: aseptic, lecture classrooms for 180 persons, laboratories, was created during a year.
